New works in progress intended as a prototype idea and concept that is experimenting with methods and means to give accessibility for the visually impaired, this particular work is aimed at multiple audiences both sighted and non-sighted.
Small archive images hand transferred onto metal and encased in aged tins. Accompanying each image on the left side is braille text embossed onto copper (copper has anti-microbial properties so is ideal for allowing many hands to touch). The braille text is a short poetic interpretation of the adjoining image. This experimental piece is for artist work but the concept can easily be applied for pure factual descriptive braille text for visual and object based archive material.
I am currently making with the guidance and help from ceramic artist Anni Paunila, oval and round ceramic plaques using In-glaze high temperature decals that will incorporate my copyright owned collection of archive images from a previous project; Found&Lost II as an example. https://www.facebook.com/FoundLost-II-1570925196550381
The concept is to find ways to challenge the way in which archives are used and viewed and by whom! To explore ways to bring photographic archive material, which is often held in institutions to the general public so they can be shared and enjoyed by a wider audience. These ceramic plaques can then be incorporated into walls of public building; indoors or outdoors or into public park areas.
We are happy to announce that Mechanics of Conformity (MOC) will bring ‘Mirror’ a "dialogue-based piece" to Mänttä Art Festival this year. https://mechanicsofconformity.weebly.com/
”TO ERR IS HUMAN”
We have worked over the last three years to thoroughly investigate our personal and collective relations to hair and its inevitable sociopolitical inter-relational contexts. We also focused on facilitating conversations through "hair and art making" and here we go!! We are super thankful to everyone who participated, shared and listened to us with openness, trust and interest..
Thank you Anna Ruth, the curator of the exhibition, for the inclusion.
